Jukka K. Niemi is the founder of Käkikuu Oy and an expert in sustainability work for SMEs, helping companies develop business-driven and impactful sustainability practices. Jukka specializes in SME sustainability work and business development. For this, we offer a wide range of sustainability solutions targeted and tailored for SMEs, such as sustainability strategies, carbon footprint calculation, sustainability reporting, and training.

Sustainability work in SMEs in practice

We continuously assess the impacts of the rapidly changing regulatory environment on SMEs and their sustainability work. This includes, for example, the VSME-standard for SMEs and the impacts of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive CSRD for large companies on SMEs.

Over twenty years of experience as an entrepreneur and a background in Management in Sustainable Business and sustainable development studies at Häme University of Applied Sciences and NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands have together shaped Jukka into an expert with excellent capabilities to see deeply into the world of strategic management and sustainability work in SMEs.

Jukka’s Specialist Vocational Qualification in Business Management and his long career in corporate management and business development shape his views on how responsible business can be a force for positive change. Sustainability work brings companies benefits that help them achieve better financial results and secure their business far into the future. At the same time, nature and the environment also benefit.

Jukka K. Niemi has also written the book Sustainability Work in SMEs – A Guide to Effective Business (in Finnish)published by the Finnish Chamber of Commerce in autumn 2024. He wrote the book in a practical and accessible way, with the aim of inspiring and encouraging readers to engage in impactful sustainability work.

Maren is a sustainable development expert. She specializes in sustainability work for small and medium-sized enterprises and in the development of the circular economy. During her career, Maren has worked extensively in sales, HR, procurement, and logistics coordination, which gives her a broad perspective on business operations, particularly from the viewpoints of economic and social responsibility.

Maren’s expertise in sustainable development and the circular economy has grown through her studies at Häme University of Applied Sciences.Customer orientation is an important principle for her. Maren helps her clients find solutions that suit them for implementing sustainability in their operations. Her long work experience in customer-facing roles gives Maren a strong foundation for this.
